What Do We Believe?

The Church is for ALL! Period! No Further Discussion......

Below is some of what we believe, but as a congregation, we do not have one set of beliefs, creeds etc. We are an eclectic mix of people from several denominations, our general makeup is former Catholics, Methodists, Lutherans, Life Time Congregationalists, and everything in between.

Get To Know Us....

At Bolton Congregational Church, our faith is rooted in the life, teachings, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. We believe that God loves all people, calls us into relationship with one another, and invites us to participate in the work of healing, justice, compassion, and reconciliation in the world.

As a congregation of the United Church of Christ, we embrace the historic Christian faith while recognizing that faith is a lifelong journey of growth, learning, and discovery. We believe that God's word continues to speak to every generation and that the Bible remains a source of inspiration, wisdom, and guidance as we seek to follow Christ in our daily lives. We affirm that each person has both the freedom and responsibility to prayerfully discern God's call with the guidance of Scripture, tradition, reason, and the community of faith.

The United Church of Christ is known for its commitment to extravagant welcome, justice, and covenantal relationships. Guided by the denomination's vision that "God is still speaking," we seek to listen for God's voice in our changing world while remaining grounded in the Gospel. We believe that the church is called not only to worship, but also to serve, advocate for those in need, and work toward a more just and compassionate society.

As part of the Southern New England Conference of the United Church of Christ, we join with congregations throughout Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island in the mission of building healthy churches, nurturing faithful leaders, and transforming communities through Christ's love. Together, we seek to strengthen local congregations, support ministries of service and outreach, encourage spiritual growth, and equip churches to respond faithfully to the challenges and opportunities of our time.

At Bolton Congregational Church, these wider commitments take shape through our own local mission and ministry. We are committed to being a welcoming community where people can encounter God's love, grow in faith, build meaningful relationships, and discover opportunities to serve. Through worship, Christian education, fellowship, pastoral care, community meals, outreach ministries, and service to our neighbors, we strive to be a living expression of Christ's love in Bolton and beyond.

We believe that faith is best lived out in community. We believe that every person is created in God's image and has gifts to share. We believe that worship should inspire, service should transform, and love should guide all that we do. We believe that God continues to call us forward in hope, inviting us to join in the work of building God's kingdom here on earth.

Whoever you are, and wherever you are on life's journey, we invite you to join us as we seek to love God, love our neighbors, and follow Christ together.

Our Practices.....

At Bolton Congregational Church, our worship and practices are rooted in a simple but meaningful desire: to encounter God together, grow in faith, and live out Christ’s love in the world. While our traditions are grounded in the historic Christian faith, we also seek to keep our worship accessible, welcoming, and relevant to everyday life.

We celebrate two sacraments: Baptism and Holy Communion. Baptism is a sign of God’s grace and welcome into the family of faith. We baptize people of all ages, including infants, children, youth, and adults, affirming that God’s love reaches us at every stage of life. Holy Communion is celebrated regularly as a sacred meal of remembrance, thanksgiving, and spiritual nourishment. At Bolton Congregational Church, we practice an open table, meaning all are welcome to receive Communion—no matter your background, church membership status, or where you are on your faith journey. We typically share Communion on the first Sunday of each month, as well as on special holy days throughout the year.

Our worship services are centered on Scripture, prayer, music, and preaching. Each service is designed to help us hear God’s Word, respond in faith, and be sent out into the world strengthened for service. We value both traditional hymns and meaningful contemporary expressions of faith, and our worship reflects a blend of reverence, joy, and openness.

There is no formal dress code at Bolton Congregational Church. You will find people wearing everything from casual attire to more traditional Sunday dress. What matters most to us is not how you look, but that you are present with an open heart and a willingness to participate in the life of the community.

We also believe that worship does not end when the service is over. Our faith continues through fellowship, service, and everyday acts of kindness and justice. Whether gathered around the table in worship or serving in the community, we seek to live out the love of Christ in tangible ways throughout the week.

In all that we do, we strive to be a church where people can come as they are, be welcomed in love, and grow together in faith and discipleship.
